Installation issues...
Nov 15 2007, 12:33 PM EST Well - I hit a snag already. I installed the VM Server disk - and then started to install the VM Manager disk (mounted the CD which I created from the ISO and ran sh runinstaller.sh sh) - and received an error stating "libaio package (rpm) is missing. Please install this prerequisite first". Can someone point out the directions so I can install this ? 5 out of 19 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Installation issues...
Nov 15 2007, 12:52 PM EST If you don't have libaio on your o/s CD, you can get it from rpmfind.net. It's a prerequisite for Oracle Database XE, which is used as part of Oracle VM Manager. When you've got the rpm, follow the instructions from the Oracle VM Manager Installation Guide (I love copy/paste, don't you?) The libaio.rpm File Ensure that the libaio.rpm package is installed. You can find libaio.rpm from the ISO packages of Oracle Enterprise Linux. The libaio version varies depending on the Oracle Enterprise Linux version. For Oracle Enterprise Linux 4 Update 5, the libaio version is libaio-0.3.105-2. 1. Before installing libaio.rpm, check if it is already installed. To determine if libaio.rpm is already installed, enter the following command: # /bin/rpm -q libaio.i386 This command will display the existing libaio.rpm version. For example: libaio-0.3.106-3.2 If no information is displayed, then you need to install libaio.rpm. 2. Go to the directory where libaio.rpm is located, and enter the following command: # rpm -ivh libaio-0.3.105-2.i386.rpm 5 out of 18 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Installation issues...
Nov 15 2007, 4:44 PM EST I had pulled this prior to reading your post. However, I believe that I was under the impression that from dom0 I could run VM Manager. After the rpm is in place, there was not enough disk allocated to the root '/' partition in the default Oracle VM install to hold the VM Manager. Further, I am wondering if that is the intention or if an initial Virtual Machine is expected to hold this. runInstaller.sh issues "... Disk space of dir / is less than 3600MB, failed". Although I do have 2.1G of Available on my root partition. Can it be confirmed that OVS-Manager is intended to install in dom0 of Oracle VM? If that's the case, then it would be great to already have libaio included in the install. If that is not the case, then it would be great to have OVS-Manager included in a paravirtualized all-in-one install as the first guest. Perhaps this is one of the templates that is in the works. 1 out of 12 found this valuable. Do you? |

Nov 15 2007, 6:51 PM EST I posted the same reply in response to another question, but the documentation states that Oracle VM requires two servers - one for VM Server and one for VM Manager. RE: Installation issues...
Nov 15 2007, 8:35 PM EST It never occurred to me to install Oracle VM Manager into dom0. Wow, you are creative. :-) No, Oracle VM Manager needs to be on a separate, second machine, which has either RedHat or Oracle Enterprise Linux installed. See either the Oracle VM Quick Start Guide, or the Oracle VM Manager Install Guide. Alison 0 out of 12 found this valuable. Do you? |

See either the Oracle VM Quick Start Guide, or the Oracle VM Manager Install Guide.Actually, by adjusting the default partitioning to make the root partition 5g and installing the requisite RPM [libaio-0.3.105-2] it works. I am testing on a single box that does not have hardware virtualized assistance. My other server is a Mac -- so I would be stuck otherwise. 2 out of 13 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Installation issues...
Nov 21 2007, 12:20 PM EST Almost forgot. Once ovs-manager is installed, you'll need to ensure that the ports are not blocked by the software firewall. The defaults are 8080 and 8888. This is done by running system-config-securitylevel as root; clicking customize button; and appending 8080:tcp 8888:tcp to the "Other ports" field. Note: this will be changed to the names contained in /etc/services "webcache:tcp ddi-tcp-1:tcp". Otherwise, one would have to ssh tunnel the ports to their localhost in order to interact with the manager. 1 out of 12 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Installation issues...
Jan 25 2008, 10:25 AM EST If you don't have it on an install CD for Oracle Enterprise Linux (as mentioned by Alison's post earlier). I would suggest looking at the link: http://edelivery.oracle.com/linux which is labeled as "Enterprise Linux" on the All Downloads page of http://www.oracle.com/ and the CD images should are there after the standard License and Export Agreements and selection of your hardware platform. 2 out of 9 found this valuable.
