Wiki Engine
Nov 13 2007, 1:24 AM EST Why have Oracle decided to use WetPaint for its wiki site? I've looked through the site and I'd say it is not so flexible as some other Wiki engines e.g. MediaWiki. Also, what is the point of having the Navigation Pane with all pages in there for the world-class site? I'd say there will be a lot of pages in case of the site's popularity and surely that will make the navigation with the pane cumbersome and slow. Thanks, Dmitry 8 out of 25 found this valuable. RE: Wiki Engine
Nov 14 2007, 11:46 AM EST I'm sure ease-of-use had a lot to do with it. It's a lot easier to get participation and collaboration when anyone can participate...not just those who know wiki syntax. As for the navigation pane, again it comes down to web convention. People expect to find navigation on websites to help quickly navigate. 3 out of 9 found this valuable. Do you? |

Nov 16 2007, 12:09 PM EST Justin said the reason for choosing Wetpaint was ease of use. MediaWiki may be more flexible but it's a bear for the average Joe. 3 out of 5 found this valuable. Do you? |

MediaWiki may be more flexible but it's a bear for the average Joe."For the users Wikis are great (once the content is there), but any Wiki for the first time contributor is daunting... It is a lot more work than a message or a blog, because you want the content to conform to the community standards so that it is understandable... Any package that can simply this for the non-writer (typical computer guy such as myself) is a good thing... 3 out of 5 found this valuable. Do you? |
