Sir,Thank you very much for your time in suggesting.We would be very very happy if you can spare some more time and share us some things which you faced when you are a beginner and small problems when you started with oracle .That would be very helpful for us. I can take the initiative in sharing my own experience.Guys please carry on the chain with yours...small or big it doesnt matter... I always had some problem with the group by clause when i started with oracle.I created a table and then learnt all possible ways of using a group by.Totals,subtotals and for examples i used to browse on and on till i went correctly . I used to have some confusion when i read to_char,to_number,to_date functions.I had to write 20-30 combinations to get it on my tips. Do you find this valuable? |

Heh, ok, first of all I'm not saying that I'm a Oracle GOD or something, I was simply trying to give an advice on how to approach a new skill to learn.From my personal experience, I did a lot of testing with virtual environment, VMware Server is free, and there's a good number of places to read about setting up virtual labs (http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/10g/OracleDB10gR2RACInstallationOnCentos4UsingVMware.php or with Windows http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/10g/OracleDB10gR2RACInstallationOnWindows2003UsingVMware.php), read guides made by people who experiment and test different combinations of configs, another nice site for guides is http://www.puschitz.com Bottom line is, practice, practice a lot, experiment, if there's some document saying that you can't do something with your database, try it, you'll learn a lot more from your mistakes than from someone's word. One last thing, in these days you want to focus on High Availability and Clustering ;-) Best regards, Do you find this valuable? |
