Transfering Conventional data values to XML and store in CLOBS

I was wondering if there is a simple way, just using SQL in Oracle Database 10g, to just transform the data from conventional table columns like numeric, varchar, date to XML then store that into a CLOB. We need to define a schema somewhere. Then, once done, it will be nice to have some tools or sql commands to do the transfer.
