FYI: Oracle install hangs during install (Linux - RHEL 5)

Hi - I just thought I should share this... While installing Oracle I found that the installer got stuck on one point during the install screen. After two hours of not moving I decided to dig around - without stopping the installer, since I did not know what it was doing or waiting for and I could see occasional CPU activity on the installer (Java) process.

I found the log files in the ../app/oraInventory/logs directory and when I tailed "oraInstall2009-04-25_07-13-18AM.err" I got the message "Caught UnknownHostException: ora-db-001: ora-db-001" (ora-db-001 is my hostname). It turned out the hostname was not defined in /etc/hosts - an oversight on my side during the prep phase :-)

In any case, the moment you add the host entry, the installation continues. No interruption of the installer required.
