PeopleSoft Enterprise Portal is going strong

There has been a lot of mis-information out there about the Enterprise Portal. It falls under Oracle's Applications Unlimited strategy, and we are continuing to enhance it just like other PS apps. The PeopleSoft portal is distinguished by being a functional portal. That is, it provides capabilities beyond simply aggregating and managing content. Chief among these are Collaborative Workspaces, which includes such things as discussion groups, group calendaring, content publishing, discussion forums, group links, team events, polling, email integration and team action items. The EP also supports the latest standards, so it can publish and consume content with any WSRP/JSR compliant source. It's tighty integrated with PS apps, and is very easy to deploy. The best prospects for this product are customers that have a strong PeopleSoft portfolio which they want to better integrate and improve the business processes across applications. 4  out of 5 found this valuable. Our company has purchased PS recently but also has an Oracle Infrastructure initiative going on. Basically we own PS Portal and Oracle Portal. Which one should we implement? There will be customer self service items, like paying a bill etc. It it recommended to install both and get them to work together? Or is it better to just run with one of them.

I know this thread is old, but I'd love a response.

It depends in what you are trying to accomplish with your portal initiative. I'll freely admit my bias because I work on the PS product, but in a nutshell, we recommend using the ps portal particularly for your peoplesoft-centric business processes. For example, if the business processes and transactions you are capturing are centered around your PS HR applications. Or perhaps you want to use the portal to combine processes from SCM and Financials. These scenarios can take advantage of one of the strengths of the PS portal: tight integration with ps apps. It is much easier to deploy the ps portal for these types of scenarios. Enterprise portal is not limited to ps content, however. It can consume content from any standards-compliant provider. Also, if you want to take advantage of collaboration functionality, that is something that comes standard with the ps portal.

One more suggestion: I've found that customers have achieved MUCH greater success and satisfaction by using consulting when designing and deploying portals. Here is a company that has worked with many of our customers with wonderful success:
