Jan 2 2008, 8:17 AM EST Hi You haven't mentioned what kind of backup you are doing. It would be easy to look into if you give logs of your backup job. 0 out of 10 found this valuable. Do you? |

Jan 4 2008, 5:23 AM EST Hi, do you backup your archivelogs ? maybe the total size of the backup is the size of the database plus the archivelogs. Bye. 1 out of 10 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: RMAN Backup
Jan 8 2008, 12:50 PM EST Hi, Since 10g version you can compress the backupsets including the datafiles. In any way, the database full backup is always smaller then the OS copy of files since Rman does not backup the non-modified blocks in datafiles and the tempfiles. 0 out of 8 found this valuable. RE: RMAN Backup
Jan 9 2008, 8:33 PM EST when u say 70GB, are you saying 70GB used? what is the sum of sizes all datafiles (excluding temp)? with a rman full backup, if data was ever in the block it'll get backed up. While the rman exact behavior depends on your version SE/EE and release. backing up to these file HWMs could account for your difference. 0 out of 8 found this valuable. Do you? |

Jan 22 2008, 2:29 AM EST Consider using the compressed option which should significantly reduce the size of the backup. 0 out of 5 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: RMAN Backup
Jan 25 2008, 10:12 AM EST If you use the compressed option it increases the time it takes to for the backup to complete dramatically. Especially if you are storing BLOBS int he database. Just a heads up. I recently had an issue with this. 0 out of 4 found this valuable. Do you? |
