Oracle VM support for OCS?
Nov 20 2007, 5:08 AM EST Hi, I can't find Oracle Collaboration Suite in the list of OracleVM supported product. Is there a particular reason why it is not included? Or is support for this product planned in the next future? Finally, if I try to set it up, will it work even if unsupported? Thank you for any ideas. 0 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Oracle VM support for OCS?
Nov 21 2007, 6:15 PM EST OCS 10g is based on IAS 10.1.2.0.2 stack so if IAS is supported then so would OCS. 0 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Oracle VM support for OCS?
Nov 21 2007, 7:00 PM EST "Hi, I can't find Oracle Collaboration Suite in the list of OracleVM supported product. If what you are attempting to use Oracle VM for is to clone OCS, then no this will not work because you cannot change the hostname.domain name after an OCS install. This is a OCS restriction on 10g If you are using it to just have a virtualized environment, there is no reason why this would not work becaue the OS does not know that it is on a Virtualized environment. The hostname.domain name on a virtualized machine is no different then a regular install. 0 out of 3 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Oracle VM support for OCS?
Nov 22 2007, 2:52 AM EST Thank you very much. Very useful reply.... I think I will definitely try an install in the next future. But, unfortunately, what I was really trying to get to, is indeed a way to clone a whole installation... And according to what you write, this is not possible. I remember that in the recent past, searching on Metalink, I somehow found a document (that of course I can't find anymore now that I need it) that described a procedure to MIGRATE an OCS installation on another host..... Do you think that SCRIPTING this procedure to operate between 2 virtual machines is possible? Or is it science fiction? Finally.... Maybe there is a new "version" of OCS coming out in the next future? Hopefully making cloning possible? I ask you this because, if I'm not wrong, you should be Mr. Soutar from Oracle (if it's you, months ago you helped me out setting up HTTPS on my OCS installation..! thank you again for that), and maybe you know a bit more about "rumors" on new versions of OCS..... Thank you again for your interest and for all the help. 0 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Oracle VM support for OCS?
Nov 23 2007, 8:28 AM EST Hi Andrew, good to see that you remember too! :) Thank you for your prompt reply. Very interesting news! I'll be waiting the release of this new product then. In the meanwhile, I really hope you have a few more minutes for me, to answer the following questions, I realize they are maybe not so easy questions, but I would be really grateful just to have a personal Opinion of yours: 1) Do you think this new OCS product will still be affected by the "cannot change name.domain" issue? 2) I saw somewere in Metalink a procedure to MIGRATE a whole OCS environment to a new host (I'm talking about OCS as of today). Do you think that SCRIPTING this procedure to operate between 2 virtual machines is possible? Thank you again, and I promise I won't bother you anymore after you'll answer these 2!!! ;) 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

RE: Oracle VM support for OCS?
Nov 23 2007, 9:41 AM EST QUESTIONS 1) Do you think this new OCS product will still be affected by the "cannot change name.domain" issue? The new product is a revamp and will not be restricted to hostname. As you already know IAS has moved to a SOA platform and OCS (Beehive) is based on IAS.. Hmmm keep your imagination open.. All I can say now is it is a big change. I have heard, The first release is going to be available early in the of the new year. Don't hold me to that. This is information on beehive (OCS) on the public domain. http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B16240_01/doc/em.102/b31949/oracle_site_management.htm http://forums.oracle.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=584151 http://www.cmswatch.com/Trends/1067-Talking-portal-product-futures-at-Oracle-OpenWorld-2007 2) I saw somewhere in Metalink a procedure to MIGRATE a whole OCS environment to a new host (I'm talking about OCS as of today). Do you think that SCRIPTING this procedure to operate between 2 virtual machines is possible? There is a relocation upgrade that should be available soon. I am no longer with the OCS team so I am not up to date on the status of the relocation upgrade. When I left to a new team it was almost completed that was 4 months ago. Once it is available I do not see why you would not be able to do it on two separate machines. Regards Andy 0 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |
