Performance Tuning for the Oracle OLAP option
The purpose of this page is to cover basic principles and recommendations around generic tuning of a database running the Oracle OLAP option. This page makes the assumption that tuning the OLAP option takes precedence over any other application or option on the server.
Important: If you are running EPB, ODP or other Oracle Applications then ignore this page and proceed directly to Database Initialization Parameters and Configuration for Oracle Applications 11i (MetaLink Note 216205.1)
- The Oracle OLAP option is in the Oracle database kernel (oracle binary executable) and it uses the same database memory, processes and storage just as anything else would in the database.
- Analytic Workspaces or Cube Organized Materialized Views (aka Multidimensional Datatypes, or Cubes) are stored in Binary LOBs within Tables stored in Tablespaces in Datafiles on Disk.
- You can use AWR, Statspack, ADDM, ASH, UTLESTAT or any other tool you are accustomed to to aid in tuning the OLAP option. There are some scripts available that can also be used to dig deeper into the OLAP option found here OLAP option - DBA Sample Scripts
Important: If you are running EPB, ODP or other Oracle Applications then ignore this page and proceed directly to Database Initialization Parameters and Configuration for Oracle Applications 11i (MetaLink Note 216205.1)
