Well - I hit a snag already. I installed the VM Server disk - and then started to install the VM Manager disk (mounted the CD which I created from the ISO and ran sh runinstaller.sh sh) - and received an error stating "libaio package (rpm) is missing. Please install this prerequisite first". Can someone point out the directions so I can install this ?

Hi,
Newcomer to Oracle VM here :) I just wanted to know if it was possible to edit the VM templates before deployment. In my case I would like to know if it's possible to change the default installation directory when deploying the Grid Control VM Templates. (Both OMS and OMR templates) I also wanted to know if it's possible to change the disks size of the VM created from a template before creation and if not, if it's possible to change it post installation. Thank you for your input, Olivier

I am trying to install OVS 2.1.5 on quad core cpu (64 bit) and it successfully boot from CD. It asks for language and keboard type and then type of installation media. I selected local CDROM but after that a screen comes to select the driver and I am unable to proceed further as whatever the driver I select it says no device found.

According to the Datasheet (http://www.oracle.com/technologies/virtualization/docs/ovm-ds.pdf), Only the following Oracle Applications are "supported" with Oracle VM
• Oracle PeopleSoft Enterprise 8.4.x and 9.0; • PeopleTools 8.49.07 and above; • Oracle Siebel CRM 8.0; The word 'supported' may mean that it (PSFT, Siebel etc) has been tested successfully. The other apps might not been given a try. So is my question. Would like to know whether G-Log image on Oracle VM is technically possible? Has anybody tried OTM (Oracle Transportation Management - G-log) image using Oracle VM? -Subashini

I have a standalone server Rhel4 update 6 (kernel 2.6.55) and I have an Oracle VM server and I want my Rhel4update 6 to be an Oracle VM guest (another nodes) Anyway know how to do it successfully? How does it work? any steps?
I have searched for many hours (well almost one day) but no luck. I have done following.. 1) I used VIRT-P2V http://et.redhat.com/~rjones/virt-p2v/virt-p2v.1.html use this VIRT-p2v I created rhel4 update 6 img file . I used vm.cfg that from Oracle VM example and modified it for this rhel4 update 6 img file 2) I dd entire virt-p2v by doing dd if=/dev/sda | gzip > rhel4up6.img.gz and then transfer to my Oracle VM server. I unzip it and used vm.cfg that was from Oracle VM example and make modfification. 3) qemu-img convert -f vmdk ecoms32.img -O raw xen_compatible.img or qemu-img -c ecoms32.img -O system.img All above steps, when I run %xm create -c rhel4up6.cfg I do see "Red hat Enterprise Linux Boot Grub Menu" but when I hit enter I gets │ Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS (2.6.9-55.EL) pyGRUB version 0.6 ┌──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── │ Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS (2.6.9-55.EL) │ │ Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS (2.6.9-55.ELsmp) │ └──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── " Error: (2, 'Invalid kernel', 'xc_dom_find_loader: no loader found\n') " Please help me. Help!! Thank you

Hi team,
is this possible to create multiple Linux virtual machines on the USB disk? My laptop has the limited disk space for the current windows OS, so I would like to attach a single 500 gb drive "through USB port", which will be partitioned into 100 gb each (5 partitions), and make five virtual machines installing the Linux OS into "the partitions on the USB attached disk." My intention is I would like to use my laptop's cpu, memory and network (not disk) for the Linux virtual machines only when I plug in the USB disk into the laptop. I like to operate just a Window virtual machine on my laptop while I don't plug-in the USB drive. Not sure if it's possible.

I created a Shared Virtual Disk ressource using the Manager, and assigned it to a VM in the tab 'Virtual Disk'.
When I connect to that VM in console mode using VNC I can't see this Virtual Disk. is there any command lines to mount that Shared Virtual Drive ? thanks /Stéphane.

I installed Server and Manager without a hitch. Installed an HVM Redhat ES 4 without a hitch. However, after rebooting my VM, I have no mouse control. It goes beyond the mouse tracking issue in VNC, but the mouse cursor stays in the middle of the screen no matter what I do. I have tried accessing via another linux box, a windows box and from the physical box that houses my VM Manager.
Any ideas?

Hi team,
The ovm release notes say that the performance of Windows OS based virtual machine on the ovm is "significantly" slow than the non-virtual Windows OS machine. Is there anybody who has experienced it? How much slow have you felt? 20% slower? 50% slower? Just curious... My plan is I love to use my desktop with a Windows virtual machine for my office work and Oracle client softwares and with the Linux virtual machines for the Oracle servers at the same time.

For test purposes I would like to install both all of the components for Oracle VM on one server. Is there a way to do this? I saw from one of the other posts that the root partition for the server installation is too small to install Oracle VM on. Could this partition be resized after installation?

I have installed Oracle VM and created a paravirtualized server from an iso that was mounted NFS on the server.
The create completed and the status of the Virtual machine says Running. I am able to connect to this Virtual machine with VNC and see the RH5 text install screen. -The Installation method is nfs image. -It allows me to select DHCP for the ipaddess. -On the NFS setup screen I have to option to point to the same mount point that I used for the creation of the image. I have confirmed this is still available. - When I click on ok I get ERROR That directory could not be mounted from the server. But I know it is available. Anyone else hit this yet? Regards Andrew Soutar.
