What Is Included in this Release?


This release of the Oracle Gadgets for CRM includes:

  • Oracle Gadget Manager – This is a prerequisite for the gadgets to function.
  • Oracle Contacts Gadget
  • Oracle Top Accounts Gadget
  • Oracle Top Deals Gadget
  • Oracle Search Gadget
  • Oracle Quota Gadget
  • Oracle Tune-up tool for Gadget Manager

Support
English only support in this release.

Integration with LDAP is not supported.

Data refresh
The Oracle Gadget Manager refreshes data from the CRM System every 30 minutes. You can force an immediate refresh of changes by pressing the "save" button on the Gadget Manager. Each gadget has it's own refresh interval. This interval adjusts the refresh of data sent from the Gadget manager only. This interval is adjusted from the preference panel of each gadget.


If using the gadgets with Oracle Siebel CRM Enterprise:
there is a maximum limit of 1000 records retrieved per gadget.
transaction write back are not supported..


Prerequisites

To run Adobe Air Gadgets you must download and install the Adobe Air framework. The Adobe AIR framework is available at http://get.adobe.com/air/.

System Requirements to Run Adobe Air


Windows
  • Intel® Pentium® III 1GHz or faster processor, 512MB of RAM
  • Recommended: Pentium 4 2GHZ or faster, 1GB RAM
  • Windows Vista® Home Premium, Business, Ultimate, or Enterprise including 64 bit editions, Windows Vista SP1, Windows XP Tablet PC Edition SP2 and SP3, Windows XP SP2 and SP3, Windows 2000 SP4, Windows 2003 Server
Mac OS X
  • Intel Core™ Duo 1.83GHz or faster processor; PowerPC® G4 1GHz or faster processor
  • Mac OS X 10.4.11 or Mac OS X 10.5.4 and 10.5.5
  • 512MB of RAM

Linux
  • Adobe Air for Linux is currently Beta
  • Oracle Enterprise Linux, SUSE, Red Hat, Ubuntu. Please refer to the Adobe site for additional information on supported Linux distributions and hardware requirements .
  • For Linux, Patch 828238 -ORACLE GADGETS MANAGER VERSION 1.0.1 is required. This is available on metalink3
    via the "Patches and Downloads" tab.
[Note for Mac and Linux users: some features, such as launching Siebel from the gadget, are only supported for Siebel supported platforms.]

Supported CRM Application Platforms

Oracle CRM Gadgets are supported for Oracle Siebel Enterprise Applications versions 7.7 and later.
  • The Search Gadget supports Siebel Enterprise Applications 8.0 and Siebel 8.1.1 using the supported Search Engines documented in the Siebel supported platforms guide.

Oracle CRM Gadgets are supported for Oracle CRM On Demand with the following exceptions:
  • Quota Gadget, Search Gadget, and Tune up tool for Gadget Manager.


Required Accounts

All of the gadgets work with sample data, so you can install the gadgets and familiarize yourself before connecting a gadget to your live CRM system.


To use a gadget with Oracle Siebel Enterprise Applications data, you must access a Siebel CRM Enterprise instance.
To use a gadget with Oracle CRM On Demand data, you must access a Oracle CRM On Demand account.

The “Click-to-call” functionality of Contacts Gadget and Top Accounts Gadget is available via a subscription to Oracle Call Center On Demand - a 100% SaaS communications platform. Oracle Call Center On Demand allows you to make phone calls through your phone initiated from the Gadgets. For more information, contact your Oracle account representative.


Installing and Configuring Oracle Gadgets


It is recommended that you carry out these tasks in the following order:

  • Install the Oracle Gadget Manager
  • Configure the Oracle Gadget Manager
  • Install the Oracle CRM Gadgets
  • If you intend to configure your data sources - install the Gadget Manager tune-up tool.






Installing the Oracle Gadget Manager

To install Gadget Manager:
  1. Extract the files in zip to a directory of your choice.
    Note: The files are extracted directly to the target directory, not to a containing folder within the target directory.
  2. Double-click to launch Oracle Gadget Manager.air, the Gadget Manager installer, and then choose to install.
  3. In the Application Install dialog box, make the following choices, then click Continue:
  • Choose to add a shortcut to your desktop if you want the convenience of launching Gadget Manager from your desktop.
  • Choose to start the application after installation, or not.
  • Edit the default location for the application, or not.

Configuring the Gadget Manager

Gadgets have no data on which to operate until the Gadget Manager is configured. By configuring Gadget Manager before installing the gadgets, data from your CRM system populates each gadget when the gadget is first launched. The data displays after a short delay that is determined by the interval you specify in each Gadget to refresh data.


Configuring the Gadget Manager for Oracle CRM On Demand

You are going to tell the Gadget manager how to access your CRM On Demand account. Skip this section if you are a Siebel CRM On Premise user.

To configure Gadget Manager for Oracle CRM On Demand:

  1. From the Data Source drop-down list select Siebel OnDemand.
  • Enter the URL for the CRM On Demand system.
  • Enter user ID (UID) and password (PWD) with which to log in, then click Save.

  1. Note: Call Service is calling functionality that requires a subscription to Call Center On Demand. For information, contact your sales person for details to enable gadgets for calling.

Configuring the Gadget Manager for Oracle Siebel Enterprise Applications

You are going to tell the Gadget manager how to access your CRM On Premise account. Skip this section if you are a Siebel CRM On Demand user.

To configure Gadget Manager for CRM Oracle Siebel Enterprise Applications :
  1. From the Data Source drop-down list select Siebel CRM.
  • Enter the URL for the CRM Oracle Siebel Enterprise Applications system.
    Note: When you launch the Siebel CRM Oracle Siebel Enterprise Applications application from a browser, the URL looks similar to:
    http://sdchs20n515.corp.siebel.com/sales_enu/start.swe
    Your machine name will be different. Your application name may also be different.
    To launch a gadget using the same basic URL, do not include “start.swe.” For example, enter instead:
    http://sdchs20n515.corp.siebel.com/sales_enu
  • Enter user ID (UID) and password (PWD) with which to log in, then click Save.

Views needed by Gadget Manager for Siebel Enterprise Applications

The Siebel user account used
to launch the Gadget manager must have access to the following views:-

  1. Contact List View
  2. Account List View
  3. Opportunity List View
  4. Quota Achievement View
These views must be added to a responsibility which must be associated with the Siebel user. If the user does not have access to any one of these views the following error will be displayed:-

Configuring Gadget Manager for Oracle Contact Center On Demand

Set up your Oracle Contact Center OnDemand account. In the box entitled Call Service:
enter the URL for the CCOD account enter the user ID for the CCOD account
Note: Call Service is feature that requires a subscription to Oracle Call Center On Demand. For information, contact your Oracle account representative for details of Contact Center OnDemand.It enables the gadgets to make calls via your current mobile phone.

Installing Gadgets and the Gadget Manager Tune-Up Tool

To install a gadget or the Gadget Manager tune-up tool:
  1. In the directory to which you extracted the zip file, double-click to launch its installer file, then choose to install.
  2. In the Application Install dialog box, make the following choices, then click Continue:
  • Choose to add a shortcut to your desktop if you want the convenience of launching Gadget Manager from your desktop.
  • Choose to start the application after installation.
  • Edit the default location for the application (or ignore and accept the default)




Removing Gadgets from your machine

If you need to remove the Gadgets from your machine
On Windows machine use the Add or Remove program option from within the Control Panel.
On Mac and Linux - just delete the gadget files from the installed location.

You will also need to remove the following two files manually from your machine:

a. OracleGadgetsCnf.ogm
b. CGSDatabase.db

These files can be found at:
On Windows Drive: \Documents and Settings\<your profile name>\ . Where "Drive:" is the installation drive location.
On Mac this will be in your Applications folder.

If you need to reset your gadgets to their original settings, reinstall the gadgets

I could not find a specific media pack for Linix on edelivery. So downloaded the Windows one (i understand air is platform independant anyway)..
Have an Oracle Enterprse Liinux box with air 1.5 installed ok.. Tried to install the crm gadgets and they all errored saying invalid air file.. Should these work on on Oracle Enterprise Linux?

Hello,

I was wondering if and how it is possible to convert these gadgets to Web Gadgets that can be added to websites, like iGoogle.
I have read that Oracle has Oracle Gadget Wizard...but i haven't found it yet. does anyone know if it is already available?

This works with active directory authentication correct? I ask because the gadget manager keeps asking me to verify my UID and Password. I’m guessing because my login credentials are not working.
