Hi,
we have a database server with Oracle Linux 5.2 installed. We are testing sendmail on this server. We are executing this from command prompt --> mail -s "Test Email" <e-mail id> </tmp/test.log the command is not giving us any error but we never receive any e-mail. We tried this 3 - 4 time but still the same. Can someone please help us on how to troubleshoot this? We verified that sendmail process is running [root@db1 oracle]# service sendmail status sendmail (pid 8230 8183) is running... [ [root@db1 oracle]# ps -ef |grep sendmail |grep -v grep root 8183 1 0 2008 ? 00:00:00 sendmail: accepting connections smmsp 8230 1 0 2008 ? 00:00:00 sendmail: Queue runner@01:00:00 for /var/spool/clientmqueue $ mail -s "test e-mail" id@domain.com </home/oracle/a.sql $ [oracle@db1 mail]$ pwd /var/mail [oracle@db1 mail]$ ls -ltr -rw-rw---- 1 oracle mail 0 Dec 12 11:02 oracle Thanks

| kamranirshad | Memory usage on X64 Linux AS Release 4 update | 5 | Mar 10 2008, 11:07 AM EDT by kamranirshad | ||||

Hi,
Can someone please explain the concept of "cached" memory in Linux and how it is managed. We have installed 10g Release 2 database on X64 Linux . The server has 8 GB of RAM. Using NMON, we are noticing that the "FREE Memory" keeps on reducing and "Cached Memory" keeps on increasing. Currently, the FREE memory is showing as 787MB and Cached memory is 5690 MB. When we started the server about a couple of days ago, the FREE memory was 7329MB and cached memory was 462 MB. So, within 2 days, the cached memory has increased from 462 MB to 5690 MB and the free memory has decreased from 7329MB to 787 MB. Is this normal? Do we need to tweak some settings at Linux level / Database level to fix this? Thanks

Could anyone out there advice me on this. We will migrate our Oracle9 RAC servers to Oracle10 and do not know which 'shared FS' to use. Currently we are using OCFS2 but with Oracle10G ASM could be an option but also GSF is. Please help me with some real-life stories or an excellent scientific one.
