Installfest Community Contributors FAQ

This page presents a set of frequently asked questions about Contributing to the OTN Installfest Community wiki.

What is the difference between Enterprise Linux & Desktop Linux?
  • For the purposes of this wiki community, Enterprise Linux will be defined as those Linux distributions that are supported platforms for the Oracle technology stack.
  • Desktop Linux will be all the other Linux distributions that you can install and run Oracle on, but are not considered a supported platform by Oracle Worldwide Support.

What are appropriate Related 3rd Party Websites?
  • Useful websites which focus on installing Oracle on Linux.
  • After we have collected enough URLs we will rank them using Oracle Mix, with the most popular on Top.

Why are there no threads at the bottom of the Installfest Community wiki pages?
  • To maximize Oracle Development resources, please ask your Technical Questions in the relevant Discussion Forums on OTN, development already monitors these, and there is already a core of competent OTN members that help out in these forums.
  • Also most of the community installguides are hosted on their owners 3rd party websites, so if you see a error in a installguide please use the contact info on their website to give feedback.

What are appropriate announcements for the Upcoming Installfests section?
  • If the installfest's primary content deals with installing and working with Oracle on Linux.
  • An OTN installfest is a hybrid of a traditional Linux Installfest and a Oracle hands-on-workshop.

Why is there a link under the 'Enterprise Linux by Platform' section for Oracle VM
?
  • Oracle VM is the only virtualization environment that you can get support for the Oracle stack, from Oracle Worldwide Support.

What URL should I use when linking to the Installfest Community wiki?
  • When linking from inside this wiki infrastructure please use the following :
    http://wiki.oracle.com/page/Installfest+Community .
  • When linking to the Installfest Community wiki from blogs and other outside websites and wikis, please use the following :
    http://otn.oracle.com/goto/installfest .
  • That way if we ever have to move the community / content we won't have to fix all the reference links.
