Database Releases

You can find version specific content under this folder organised by database major release number. It is also however important to remember that an awful lot of information is either version independent or else true from a specific release upwards - so for example information about automatic segment space management is true for all versions of the database from 9i up.

Release Number Format

To understand the release nomenclature used by Oracle, examine the following example of an Oracle Database server labeled "Release 10.1.0.1.0".

Example of an Oracle Database Release Number Description of Figure 1-1 follows
Note: Starting with release 9.2, maintenance releases of Oracle Database are denoted by a change to the second digit of a release number. In previous releases, the third digit indicated a particular maintenance release.

I was trying to figure out how to do that. I don't have any good idea yet.
