TonyC1956 Database Column Naming Standards 0 Jun 16 2009, 4:28 PM EDT by TonyC1956
Thread started: Jun 16 2009, 4:28 PM EDT  Watch
I am having a difficult time finding best practices or standards the column names in a physical data model. The data modelers where I work are insisting that the table name be prepended to each column name, except if that column name is a foreign key. If the column name is a foreign key, then the table name of the primary key with the relationship to the foreign key should be used. In practice, our C# code yields schema_name.table_name.table_name_column_name. I have a feeling that they read a book somewhere and think it's a good idea, but I can't find anything that confirms or denies that the proposed standard is a valid standard, guideline, or best practice. Does any one else have any experience in this matter? Or, can anyone recommend a document regarding physical data model naming standards?
